| What is Thalassotheraphy ?? |
|
The word was created by Dr. De La Bonnardiere, a French doctor in 1869, from the Greek word “thalassa” (sea) and “therapeuin” (the cure). It refers to the treatment using marine elements, seawater, and seaweed for curative and preventive means under medical supervision. Though the word was created in 19th century, the history of the use of seawater goes back 2500 years. The tradition of bathing in the sea begins in the ancient Roman times. Sea cleanses all the human illness, said Euripides-Greek Philosopher in BC 480.
In BC 420 Hippocrates, Galean and Aristole recommended hot seawater baths.
The ancient Greeks and Romans were perfectly conscious that in the beginning, life existed only in the sea! Therefore they turned to the sea for a solution to their physical and medical problems. With the collapse of the Roman Empire the custom of seawater bath was forgotten until 18th century when the modern therapeutic basic of seawater was established.
For two centuries Thalassotherapy was only a medical technique which was initially devoted to rehabilitation and to treat serious illness such as rheumatism, arthritis, osteoarthritis, lumbar problems and reduction after bone’s fracture, or sprain. But gradually, Thalassotherapy has moved towards a global conception for those under the conditions such as stress overwork, nervous tension, blood circulation problem, excess body weight, back pains, and for tobacco addiction which most of us who live in this modern society have at least one.
Today, Thalassotherapy responds to the needs of new and sophisticated clients by offering an all around approach to well being which focus on preventive. Other preventive therapy such as pressotherapy, aromatherapy and Javanese nutrition are also practiced in Thalasso Bali.
To be a true Thalassotherapy center, it must be on more than 2700 feet (800 meters) from the shore line, constantly pumping fresh seawater filtered through large canals to be used for treatments. There are about 50 Thalassotherapy centers spread out along the French cost, meanwhile Thalasso Bali at the Mirage Resort is proud to be the pioneer in South East Asia and eager to always deliver the finest personal services.
| | Why seawater and seaweed? |

Probably many of you still do not realize that seaweed and seawater have been found to be a tremendous source of health and well – being. If you compare our own blood plasma to seawater’s composition; it’s almost identical. The mineral salts (mainly sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium) are essential for the proper functioning of the body organism and Oligo – elements or trace elements of metal such as cobalt, iron, iodine, copper regulate the hormonal mechanism of the body. We need minerals to live, stabilize our cells, construct tissues, produce energy, and synthesize hormones. They are indispensable, but not always available.
Seaweed has 10 times more Oligo – elements than seawater. Applied in a form of mud – paste and heated to 32 degree Celsius, the elements enter the human body to enhance its immune system and to stimulate the cells. The use of heat at Thalassotherapy helps to relieve pain, smoothen and constructions and relax muscles. French doctors estimate that benefits of 8 days of Thalasso cures will last from 6 to 8 months.

Facilities
Standard and tailor – made programs are available from 13 different treatments plus optional Indonesian traditional treatments. All treatments rooms are private and individual air-conditioned. Each room has a different theme and atmospheric lighting effects to indulge your senses. Also couples treatment room available. All therapists are French trained Hydro therapist and masseur.
Operation Hours
The Thalasso Bali operates daily from 09:00 am until 09:00 pm (extended hours can be arranged but must be booked in advance and must include a minimum of 10 pax).
Location within the Mirage Resort
The Thalasso Center is located at the ground floor area and can be reached by walking from the main lobby down to the center or from the beach area using the entrance near the Rama Stage, just follow the aroma of the essential oils along the ground floor corridor.

Advance reservation is recommended as appointments are subject to availability. Please phone ext 8513 to make your appointment or come direct to the Thalasso Center.
Amenities
Wide range of amenities and toiletries are provided in the changing rooms and locker areas. For your treatments we ask that you disrobe completely within the privacy of your treatment room. Disposable Thalasso – wear, robe, bag and slipper are available for you in your respective locker. Please bring your own swimwear for use in the Aquamedic Pool.
Thalasso Etiquette
In order to receive the most relaxing treatments we respectfully request that all mobile phones, pagers, electronic devices and other valuables are left in your room safe. We thank you for this cooperation.
Admission
Thalasso Bali is open to Visitors and Hotels Guest.
Check in
Please check in at the Thalasso Reception at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment. Late arrival will be subject to reduced treatment time.
Payment
Thalasso Bali accepts cash and major credit cards. Mirage Guest may charge Thalasso services and products to their room.
Amenities
Treatments you select are reserved especially for you with one of our professional French trained therapists. A 24 – hour cancellation notice is kindly requested. For cancellation less than 12 hours prior to your scheduled appointment, a 50 % cancellation fee will apply. Full charge will be automatically imposed for a “no show” and charge directly to your room account.
Valuables
We request that no jewelry be worn during your visit to the Thalasso Center. The Management of Thalasso Bali accepts no responsibility for the safety or money and valuables of any kind brought on to the premises.
Smoking and Alcohol
No smoking within the Thalasso Bali Center area. Any Alcohol consumption is not advised before ant of the Thalasso treatments.
Minimum Age
Children under the age of 16 years are restricted from accessing the Thalasso Bali Center area.
Children
To enjoy your treatments better you can bring your children to the Mirage Kid’s Club located near the Thalasso Bali Center, open only till 05:00 pm.
Pregnancy
If you are pregnant, you may want to avoid treatments using deep pressure. Please inform our Thalasso Reception of your condition upon requesting the treatments, enabling us to assist you in selecting the treatments most appropriate.
Menstrual Cycle
Ladies in their cycle are kindly requested not to use the Aquamedic Pool; you may defer it to another day.
